Submerged Objects
concrete cast of Manneken Pis (head and body separated), asphalt, sunken dock, docking rope
2009-Ongoing

On December 28, 2009 three objects were submerged off of a dock in Alamitos Bay, California. A cast of the Manneken Pis (head and body separated) and a clump of local asphalt were lowered into the water to promote the growth of sedentary tidal zone organisms such as barnacles, mussels and seaweeds. From the bow of a large catamaran positioned directly over a sunken dock, the concrete body was lowered into place. The body will be documented periodically from underwater. The concrete head was tied to a rope held by a cleat on the dock. The rope can be pulled up periodically to observe the growth of organisms.
